The Joy Of Working With The Spirit

Hey guys!

We had a pretty good week as we searched for more people and taught them. The feelings and promptings of the Spirit are so great here and it is such a joy to be working with the Spirit, doing the Lord`s work. We have one baptism for this upcoming Saturday and hope to put more people on track for being baptized. Things are just going great and I am loving the work. This past Wednesday we ate with one sister in the ward who owns a little kitchen business. She always serves us up some great food when we go and this time I ate a traditional dish called pancita. So what exactly is pancita? Well, it is cow stomach!! Yum! It actually tasted pretty good and tastes a lot like clam. Also, today we went and climbed the nearby mountain with the rest of the district to the very tippy top and took some cool photos of the part of the city to the East of the mountains. Really cool. Unfortunately, the air was pretty contaminated so we couldn't see the volcanoes that are more to the East, but it`s okay. Well, that`s pretty much all I have for this week. I love you all!

¡Feliz Cumpleaños Heather!

Hey folks!

Things are going great here. Oh! First! Happy Birthday to my big sister today! Yay. Party! Pretty tough week this past week. We taught practically no lessons the entire week but we still have faith and vigour and we are going to start fresh and new this next week and do all we can to receive the miracles or the Lord in this missionary labor that we are doing. This past week has been cloudy and cold (not really that cold, maybe 50-60 degrees) but it´s been a nice change of weather. What I want to share with you this week is about the power of the scriptures. The scriptures have such an amazing power in our lives to open our spirits and guide us in the correct paths of God. I know that when I read the scriptures, I have the spirit with me to help in my decisions and actions. I also receive direct revelation from God through the scriptures from the words that I read. The Bible and Book of Mormon are testimonies to us from a loving Father in Heaven of His son, Jesus Christ. No matter what challenges we face in life, we can always find peace and guidance through the scriptures and fortify our faith in Jesus Christ, our Savior. I know each of us will receive more blessings in our lives than we have ever imagined if we read the scriptures daily and ponder the message they contain and then apply the principles we find in them into our daily lives. I challenge you all to do this. I testify that the scriptures are ture and I do so in the name of Jesus Christ, amen.

I love you all! Take care and keep doing your best!

¡Ten fe y se obediente!

Todo mi amor,
Elder San Diego

Opening The Windows Of Heaven

Hey guys!

What a great past few weeks it has been! I guess I will start off with some of the funny and cool news first. First off, you know what I found out? The main facility for the company "La Costeña" is right here in my zone across the canal from my area! Cool stuff. We always buy their salsas in the markets when we decide to make some tacos for dinner. Second thing. You won`t believe what I ate! I ate elote! That is the corn on a stick thing that Nacho`s sidekick eats and loves in the movie Nacho Libre. It`s pretty good, and simple! Boiled corn on a stick with mayonaise, cheese, and chili powder! Yum.

Well, now time for the even greater news! I finally bought a new camera! Yay! Ok, now for even greater news! Elder Lozano and I baptized and confirmed 7 people in the month of January! Yaaay! I think you already know about Guadalupe being baptized, so I will skip on that. We baptized this cool guy named Pablo, who before was an atheist but some event in his life led him recently to start believing in God again and looking for truth. That`s when we came! Yeah! Isn`t it so neat how God prepares people to receive the gospel? So we baptized him and now he even has the Aaronic Priesthood! Wow. Next, we baptized two little twins who just completed 8 years. They are grandkids of a recent convert grandmother so it was great having that gospel base already started there. Their names are Juan and Charly. Then, we baptized two other kids of a member. They are really cool and buena onda (this just means basically the same thing as really cool, but in Spanish. I just felt like doing that). Their names are Ismael and Zac-qui. Then! Later we baptized a guy named Jorge! He is a cool guy and is the brother of one of our current investigators who is getting baptized soon too. Yay for families! Yesterday, we also had another baptism for a kid named Alfredo. He was a blessing from God to us. He is a son of a member famiy who got baptized back in August or something like that. But, he was rebelious and didn`t follow the others in being baptized. Ever since Elder Lozano had baptized that family, he always said no, but one evening this past week we were walking and didn`t have any appointments, so we decided to stop by and visit the family and maybe see if he wanted to be baptized. Well, we went and then he told us he wanted to be baptized! Yay for revelation and guidance!

Well, that`s all for this week. I`m doing great and hope you all are doing great too! I love you all!

Have You Taken Moroni's Challenge?

Hey hey!

What a good week it has been down here in good ol México! Lots of finding and teaching this week which has lead to four baptismal dates for this up and coming week! Those are the sure ones and we can set even more baptismal dates for this weekend. This past week we baptized one of our investigators, Guadalupe. She was baptized on Wednesday and confirmed on Sunday. It has been a joy teaching her with my companion, Elder Lozano. We have felt the Spirit so marvelously strong every time we have taught her and it was truly wonderful to watch her make a new and everlasting covenant with our Father in Heaven and follow the example of our Savior, Jesus Christ. I testify that when we are baptized in the correct form, as was Jesus Christ, and keep our promises that we make in baptism, we are able to open the windows of heaven and receive tremendous amounts of blessings directly from our Father.

Lots of good things happening and lots of blessings being received and even more to come! I love you all! And, since it has been quite a while, I will leave you with my testimony in Spanish! (Translation to follow).

I know without doubt that my Lord, Jesus Christ, lives. I know the Bible and the Book of Mormon testify of him and everything he has done for each of us. I know that through Him and for Him alone we are saved, after all we can do. I know his doctrine, which is faith, repentance, baptism, receiving the Holy Ghost, and endure to the end, we have to do to return and live in the presence of our Heavenly Father. There is no other way. I know that Joseph Smith actually saw Heavenly Father and Jesus Christ, our Savior and Redeemer. Through its living prophet, God made the earth back to its power to act on your behalf and perform the ordinances of salvation. This power is called the priesthood. Also, through the Prophet Joseph Smith, Jesus Christ established his own church back here on earth so that we can find the truth of God and our salvation. I bear witness that today, God speaks to us through His prophet, Thomas S. Monson. Today, God reveals His will to us. I know that this church, The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints is the true church of Jesus Christ. We are guided by revelation and the Holy Spirit. I know without any doubt in my mind, heart and soul that the Book of Mormon is true. It is the word of God. If you do not believe me, read it and do the test in Moroni, Moroni 10:4-5, and ask God to know if the Book of Mormon is actually true. If you ask with a sincere heart, which is to say you really want to know the truth, with real intent, which is to say that you will continue until you receive your answer, having faith in Christ, God has promised that you will manifest the truth of the Book Mormon through the Holy Spirit. I know that if you do, you will receive your answer from God through your feelings. I know this is true. I know all I know is true. I share these things in the sacred name of our Savior, Redeemer, and King, even Jesus Christ. Amen.

Calle Estados Unidos, Six Steps to Success & Tacos de Tripa

Hello and greetings from Mèxico!

Pretty good week with some pretty good success! But first! I need to tell you guys something pretty funny about my area. So, my area is a little part of the mission that sticks out from the rest so that it is bordered on three sides by the Mexico City East mission. On one side is a beautiful black canal that carries something besides water, to the North is just the street that divides us, and to the East is the funny part. You know what that street to the East is called? Calle Estados Unidos. (United States) Do you get it?! The border that divides the missions is Estados Unidos! Hahaha! Ok. I´m done.

But! This week has been great! On Wednesday and Thursday we had our mission conference and it was a great time and lots of learning and re-learning of our important duties and how we should teach using the spirit and the revelation President Tervort received to increase our success. Elder Lozano and I got to work focusing more on those things and, with the help of the Spirit, set two more baptismal dates with investigators. During the lessons we taught them, we decided to talk about the importance of the Holy Spirit in our lives and how important it is to receive the gift of the Holy Ghost, by proper authority, after our baptism, so that we may have God´s help throughout the rest of our lives. As we talked, I decided to focus myself on my feelings so that I could identify the Spirit when it came. I felt a little warmth in my chest and knew it was the Spirit. We started to talk more about the role of the Spirit to testify of the truth and invite us to follow the example of Jesus Christ. We followed the six steps that President has taught us, and switched the lesson to talking about the Gospel of Jesus Christ. The Spirit was marvelously strong and I felt like my shirt would catch on fire! We testified and invited our investigators to act and be baptized, and they accepted! Their baptism is set for this Wednesday!

The week was great and we are having lots of success and fun here! One more thing! I ate tacos de tripa (tacos of cow intestines) on Saturday! Yum! Well I have to go! I love you all!

¡Feliz Año Nuevo! - Happy New Year!

¡Hola! ¡Feliz año nuevo!

What a week it has been here in Mexico! The new area I am in is really cool and Elder Lozano and I are seeing a lot of miracles. We worked real hard this week and, with the help of the Holy Spirit, set four baptismal dates for this month. All of our investigators are really cool and they are so open and ready to listen to the Gospel of Jesus Christ and follow Him in His example. We received some special blessings from the Lord this week in the form of contacts and references who are ready to accept the true gospel in their lives and be baptized. It is really exciting seeing all the success in this area that is being wrought by the Lord. Elder Lozano is a really cool guy. We always have some really good laughs during the day and some fun experiences. The funny thing is he speaks a little bit of English so we talk in English sometimes.

On New Year`s Eve, we went and bought food and cooked with a member family who didn`t have too much as they are limited with money. So, we went and bought stuff and I cooked that delicious alfredo parmesan sauce that I have made a few times with pasta and they loved it! During the week, Elder Lozano and I did a little bit of service for a sister in the ward who sells juices and chips and other little goodies. We went and got the oranges she needed and used their tricycle thing to go get it. Pretty funny sight seeing two missionaries riding that trike thing. Anyway, we are having lots of success and are going to have even more! Love you all and keep doing great in all you do!

¡Feliz Navidad! - Merry Christmas!

 ¡Feliz Navidad!

What a work-filled week it has been! Elder Valdovinos and I worked hard this past week, doing all we could to find and teach more people before the end of the change. Although we didn´t have too much success with teaching lots of people, we were blessed to find some really fantastic people who want to talk after they get back from vacations. We were also very blessed to baptize one of our investigators on Christmas Day! Whoo! Her name is Itzayana, she is 18, her family is the one that gives us free huaraches, and she is just super. I had the privilege of baptizing her and it was a fantastic baptismal service on a fantastic Christmas afternoon. Today, I got transferred to the other side of the mission to another area and my new companion is Elder Lozano. He is a really cool kid and is from Monterrey. Being that he is from north Mexico, he speaks really fast so it has been a little strange adjusting to his speed and accent today, but all is well. I like how my companions so far have been natives from Mexico, so I can practice my Spanish and get that much better!

Well, everything is going well here. Just gearing up to do work in this new area! Hope you all are doing well and having a good time enjoying the holidays! I love you all!
